By Dashvanth Healthcare Medical Team Β· Reviewed by our specialists Β· East Delhi

Why Vaccination Is the Most Cost-Effective Healthcare Intervention

Vaccines prevent 2–3 million deaths globally every year. India's National Immunisation Schedule (NIS) has been updated in 2026 with new additions. Keeping your child up-to-date with vaccinations is the single most important thing you can do to protect their health.

NIS 2026 Schedule

  • Birth: BCG (TB), OPV-0, Hepatitis B-1
  • 6 weeks: DTwP-1, IPV-1, HepB-2, Hib-1, Rotavirus-1, PCV-1
  • 10 weeks: DTwP-2, IPV-2, Hib-2, Rotavirus-2, PCV-2
  • 14 weeks: DTwP-3, IPV-3, Hib-3, Rotavirus-3, PCV-3
  • 6 months: HepB-3, OPV-1
  • 9 months: MMR-1, OPV-2, Vitamin A (1st dose)
  • 12 months: Hepatitis A-1, Typhoid conjugate
  • 15 months: MMR-2, Varicella-1, PCV booster
  • 18 months: DTwP Booster-1, OPV Booster, Hib Booster, Hepatitis A-2
  • 2 years: Typhoid booster
  • 4–6 years: DTwP Booster-2, OPV Booster, MMR-3, Varicella-2
  • 9–14 years (girls): HPV vaccine (cervical cancer prevention)
  • 10 years: Tdap, Meningococcal

Optional but Recommended Vaccines

  • Influenza (annual, especially for children with asthma or heart disease)
  • Pneumococcal (beyond NIS)
  • Meningococcal (for high-risk children)

My child missed some vaccines β€” is it too late?

No β€” catch-up vaccination is always possible. Our paediatrician will create a personalised catch-up schedule. Vaccination at any age is better than not vaccinating.

Are vaccines safe?

Yes β€” vaccines undergo the most rigorous safety testing of any medical product. Serious adverse events are extremely rare (1 in millions). The risk of the disease is always far greater than the risk of the vaccine.
