Blood Sugar Tests – Understanding Your Results
Blood sugar (glucose) tests are used to diagnose and monitor diabetes and pre-diabetes. Different tests measure blood glucose at different times. At Dashvanth Healthcare Delhi, we offer all types of blood sugar testing with accurate results.
Types of Blood Sugar Tests
Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG)
- When: After 8–10 hours of fasting (no food or drink except water)
- Normal: Less than 100 mg/dL
- Pre-diabetes: 100–125 mg/dL
- Diabetes: 126 mg/dL or above on two occasions
Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPBG)
- When: 2 hours after a meal
- Normal: Less than 140 mg/dL
- Pre-diabetes: 140–199 mg/dL
- Diabetes: 200 mg/dL or above
Random Blood Glucose
- When: Any time, regardless of meals
- Diabetes if: 200 mg/dL or above with symptoms (thirst, frequent urination, weight loss)
HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin)
- What it measures: Average blood sugar over the previous 2–3 months
- Normal: Below 5.7%
- Pre-diabetes: 5.7–6.4%
- Diabetes: 6.5% or above
- Target in treated diabetes: Below 7.0%
- No fasting required
OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test)
- 75g glucose given after fasting; blood drawn at 0, 1 hour, and 2 hours
- Most sensitive test for diabetes and gestational diabetes

- Excessive thirst and frequent urination
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue and weakness
- Blurred vision
- Slow-healing wounds
- Frequent infections
