Management Approach
Dietary Modification
- Reduce high-calorie, low-nutrient foods
- Increase fruits, vegetables, whole grains
- Limit sugar-sweetened beverages
- Regular meal times, no screens during eating
- Avoid restrictive dieting – focus on healthy eating patterns
Physical Activity
- At least 60 minutes of moderate-vigorous activity daily
- Limit screen time to ≤2 hours/day
- Family involvement in physical activities
- Structured sports and outdoor play
Behaviour Change
- Family-based behavioural interventions are most effective
- Goal setting and self-monitoring
- Motivational interviewing
Medical Management
- Rule out secondary causes (thyroid, Cushing’s)
- Treat comorbidities
- Medications: limited role in children
